Sclerotherapy (Removal of Thread Veins)
Sclerotherapy treatment can remove embarrassing small veins that may have inhibited a person from showing their legs on the beach or during sporting activities.
|
How It Works
A course of three to six sclerotharapy treatments can remove these unsightly thread veins. Sclerotherapy has been practised for over 60 years. The solution causes the cells of the blood vessels to shrink and die, and the veins can fade over the course of the treatment.

Pre Treatment Assessment And Care
Prior to treatment you will have a consultation with the practitioner who will assess your medical history and your thread veins to make sure this treatment is appropriate for you.
You can not have this treatment if you are diabetic, pregnant and/or on anti-coagulant therapy. For two days before the treatment do not drink alcohol or take pain relief containing aspirin or ibuprofen. Paracetamol will be ok.
|
Side Effects
Side effects from sclerotherapy are rare, but it may result in some brown staining of the skin, which will fade within 12 months. Even more remote is the possibility of ulceration, which may leave scarring if it occurs. Careful assessment of your condition and health history will minimise this risk.

Post Treatment Care
It is important to wear FIRM support tights, or flight socks for 5 days after the treatment, these help to reduce the thread veins further. You should also not go swimming or have a bath for 24 hours, but a shower is ok.
|
Cost
The treatment costs £185 per treatment session, which is limited to 45 minutes. The treatments are ideally booked 6 weeks apart (slightly longer will have no detrimental effect on the results), and most people require 3 treatments to successfully remove their thread veins.
|
Will They Come Back?
In the majority of cases one course of treatment is sufficient to remove the thread veins once and for all, however a person prone to thread veins may well develop more in the future.
